I have no idea how to compete with these kinds of pirates.

According to the BBC, “Pirates have anchored a hijacked Saudi oil tanker off the Somali coast, as the spate of hijackings gathered pace with two more ships seized on Tuesday… The vessel is carrying a cargo of 2m barrels - a quarter of Saudi Arabia’s daily output - worth more than $100m. A cargo ship and a fishing vessel were the latest to join more than 90 vessels attacked by the pirates this year.”
The only thing I can think of is avoiding them with locally manufactured, 3-D printed stuff, and using alternative energy sources (which seem to be getting closer every day) so we don’t need oil tankers. Until that’s possible, it’s all about fighting them.

These Pirates are doing on the high seas what they have been doing to their country for years!! Pretty easy to understand!! Nobody gives a shit that they are killing thousands of innocent men, women and children.. and getting away with it….. right in front of our eyes!!!
O M G …but take my ships, my oil, or my wheat, now thats the limit.!!! Now you’ve pissed me off….
Pirates are like the old high school bullies. Once you kick his ass and slap the shit out of him, they become normal and often apologize. some even become your friends???.
The Pirates of Somalia need to be taught a lesson by the entire global maritime community. Hello…., is there anybody out there with BALLS!!! Like France!!
It’s very simple….It’s time to slap the shit out of the bully!!!! and end this horse shit!!!

These are not pirates.

They are fishermen.
Fishing for trouble

I love it!
They should sell al the petrol back to de saudies … or to Afrika for free. They really need it.
Untill now first powers took all that they wanted from the third worlds, now its payback!
I hope they stop every ship and pillage all the hold. Important would be that they give it away for free. Modern Robbin Hoods…
The sad part is that wont happen, cos all goes to the masters of war, that hire o own this pirates.
All masters of war should die or be in jail, even those of the first worlds.
I hope this is a beginning for something else and new… Afrika awakens ??

The post is funny, but Unfortunately its crab. As are the replys. At least if you take into regard the rest of the website which I think quite highly of. The dilemma is stating that Piracy is on the rise when the industry or in this sense the industrialized world is sleeping over a new technology or a new way of distribution or in this sense they are failing to make something available to enough people who desperately need a product. Thats exactly what happened with the people in Puntland.
While the industrialized countries have an adequate access to clean water and are conerned with fishing rights, keeping their seas clean of toxic waste etc. nothing of these rights were delivered to the fishers of Northern Somalia. Thats why they had to act on their own behalf and keep their illegal wasteshipes and fishingships out of their waters. Only after they realized that for abducting the crew of one of these ships, they would make more money than they earned by fishing in more than a month, they started the kidnapping of boats and people thing. Before, they were the good pirates who had to compete with global pretenses of looking after the international right of the freedom of the seas, access to clean water etc.
So, ultimately its kind of related to the real good piracy this site is about. And if you dont believe me, read it yourself here:

Some good points Fabio - thanks for posting. It seems what started as ‘good piracy’ has gone bad - and I’m not sure where the value is in copying the Somali pirates for the people and businesses they threaten. It’s possible people in other countries will copy these pirates, but it doesn’t seem to me that this is a particularly good thing or a new business model of some sort.
