It’s funny because Bush only experienced the beginnings of this 4 years ago with his “Don’t Forget About Poland” remark. I think if there is one thing that illustrates the difference between the two campaigns in this election it is the acceptance by Obama’s people of the power and effect of these types of communities and tools. That’s why they neutralized Biden’s tendency for gaffes very quickly, while McCain apparently saw nothing dangerous about a inarticulate VP nominee.
I think someone could make a pretty decent argument that Bush really dodged a bullet running for office in 2000 and not 2008. I’m not so sure he could make it in an era of ubiquitous video.
