Free Pirates!

It’s been in the works for sometime now, but today is the day we have finally been able to make the book available for free online. Both my English language publishers (Simon & Schuster in the U.S. and Penguin in the U.K.) agreed we should release the book free online after the UK launch was out of the way, and that time is now.

I already bought a hard copy, so I don’t feel super guilty about getting this digital copy for free. But I figured an extra digital copy would be handy.
The books awesome and everyone should pay at least 5 bucks.

Yes, and I think you might be flattered a bit with a fact you are being read as far as in Ukraine)
Thanks again!

Love the book, love the ideas, love the way you’re marketing it. I hope it wasn’t too aggravating convincing your publisher that free was the way to go. Well done! I’m a new fan!

Well, I’ll have to eat my hat I guess. I’m still incredibly disappointed that your book was not released under some form of copy-left license, or plain public domain but this is at least a step further in line with the ideologue you espouse than I thought you would be.
Doesn’t mean I like the book anymore though.

When I stumbled across this site, I was really excited to read your book, but I hadn’t even finished the first chapter before I was disappointed. Sexual harassment in the workplace is not revolutionary, progressive or positive in any way. Nor is objectifying women to peddle material goods. And not just the goods itself, no, but a reinforcement of the values of materialism. Because we all know, a shirt can’t ever just be a shirt, sold on the basis of its actual quality. It has to be mystified as wrapping paper for sex, otherwise people might think that it’s just a regular shirt and sales would drop. Everyone knows that the bottom lines of big businesses, even big businesses owned by the counterculture crowd, are more important than recognizing woman’s need to be treated with the dignity and respect afforded to man. If treating them like walking genitals is good for the bottom line, that is the end of discussion. So much for subverting the outdated values of the garment industry.
If Charney is a hero of the future, let me stay in the past, please. This is a man who scheduled a one-on-one meeting with a female employee, then showed up wearing only a sock over his penis and told her to masturbate with him. A man who regularly abuses his position to get sexual favors from female employees — employees who are subsequently fired when they hire a lawyer. That is NOT a “relationship” in my book. Yeah, that guy, the guy whose company has run ads that look like scenes from snuff porn, with women bruised, broken, alone and (of course) sexualised. American Apparel exhibits the exact same kinds of misogyny as most big businesses, but taken to extremes. There is no way in hell one can dehumanize half the world’s population and still compete on an ethical level, and I don’t think I could ever enjoy the work any author who suggests otherwise.
